DPA4061´s wich battery box to use? with either microdot or XLR?
« on: February 27, 2006, 06:52:30 PM »
OK from my pevious post, I see that the DPA4061´s "are the ones to get"

Question:
Hooking DPA4061´s with microdot connections, wich battery box should I get?
please........excluding the DPA MMA6000 I´dont have extra cash to pay for it, just need to power the mics and and have a bass roll off switch.
or
Converting the microdot>XLR connection?
same question
All this would be hooked to a M1 on a strictly stelath basis.

Type MPS6030

Miniature Power Supply, 2-channel, Mini-Jack

That will except the microdots

The Core Sound HEB with bass roll off has a multi-pin mini-XLR input, not microdots. The 406x microphones are wired to the multi-pin mini-XLR connector, as is a 1/8" stereo mini (there is a photo of the wiring on the Core Sound website).

Core Sound does sell a cable that will allow 406x microphones with microdot connectors to use the battery box (the cable has female microdot connectors to a connector compatible with the HEB battery box). Here is a link to the ordering page at Core Sound with the adapter cable in question:

http://www.core-sound.com/bk/11.php

The problem as I see it is that the Core Sound Dual Microdot Adapter cable is really expensive ($65), and once you add in the cost of the HEB battery box you are probably better off going with one of the DPA power supplies such as the MPS6030 (which according to the latest price list I have from DPA is $177 US - and probably less used).

Now, if you are set on getting a HEB Battery Box with switchable filter, I do have one for sale that I am going to be relisting at eBay for around $30 starting bid in the next day or 2. I did not get any bids at my prior starting bid of $50, so I am lowering the price. I suppose that if that box sold for $30 to $50, and you add the $65 for the cables from Core Sound, you would be around $95 to $115. Which I guess is less than the DPA power supply.  Here is a link to my prior post here about the eBay sale:

I have confirmed with Len at Core Sound that the battery box I am selling will power either the 4060 or the 4061 microphones.  Let me know if you have any questions about the battery box.

Even though I would love to sell the battery box, I still think that the DPA power supply (or the MMA6000 preamp) would be a better way to go.

Tom.

I would probably just go with the MPS6030, I have that and then eventually bought an MMA when I had the extra cash.  I used to tape with CSBs w/a switchable filter.  When I used the filter, the tapes were way too thin, without it the bass was too muddy.  I always had to do my bass reduction in editing software.  With the 4061s, however, I don't have to remove any bass depending on the venue and the band.  If you go over to the Oade message board (or maybe a search on here) there are plans on how to modify a DPA batt box to perform bass roll off.

If it was me, I'd just get the DPA box and see how it sounds and make a decision from there how you feel about the bass.
