Big Shure Windscreens Help

i just opened my new big Shure windscreens and noticed some odd brittle material inside them. is this supposed to be inside them and am i supposed to keep this material inside them when i insert my mics? thanks for the help!!!

Yes.  The Shure A81WS have two densities of foam - the more dense outer band, and an interior cell of much more coarse, almost plastic feeling foam.
