I have the mics http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=818466 , I am going to build a battery box http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11254&hl= can I use the battery box with these mics and record using the line-in or do I need to use the crummy mic-in of the JB3? Do I need to pick up a preamp to utilize these mics with the line-in?

For loud music you will be fine running line-in. For quiet sounds you would need some extra amplification.
