Not so long ago, I was new to this too.

Trust me when I tell you that there's a wealth of information in that link Teddy provided. There are too many variables to simply say, "Buy this, this and this." and expect it to work. Besides, no one here even knows what kind of music you want to record so what could they possibly base a recommendation on?

Check out the link, comb through the site (The Archives is a great resource for those new to this) and, use the search feature. I made it a habit to put my questions in there first. More often than not, I was able to find an answer.

I hope you find what you need.

you want a set? a set of what? mics? a whole recording setup?

you haev to be clear to get a clear answer, do some research and find out what best works for you, cause we have no clue

and most importantly, we need a budget, this shit aint cheap :)

mainly rock/metal, i would need every thing from a to z to get me on my feet and start taping. i don't need a expensive set or the best just something.

I am just starting too, this is my stealth setup

a used pair fo SP-CMC-19 (Mini Standard Cardioid microphones)

And

A used Iriver H-120. that I bought for $110

total cost $160
