Normalizing/2 Gig limit

I have a 1hr40min file open in Wavelab.  When I try to normalize it, I get an error that it can't be done because the new file would exceed 2 gigs.  I thought you could get a full 2hrs with 2gigs.  What am I missing?

what sample/bit depth?

what program are you using? sounds like your processing w. 32-bit floating, try to lower it to 24-bit processing and you should be good

When this happens, I cut the file into two files and run the processing on each file separately. I usually just cut where the disc break will go on the 16-bit version.

But this could casue different gains being applied to each file though.

yes.  but you can use the "get peak" option in the normalization window to get the peak value of the whole file, then use that number to just raise the gain of the two files the same amount.  it's essentailly jsut normalizing "manually".

Yeah, I don't use the normalize. I do the file analysis first and see what the max and RMS averages are in each channel and then figure out what gain to add to each channel.

True true....so you normalize Left and Right independently?
