Have you ever had the SBD guy ask you...
« on: October 24, 2006, 11:15:40 PM »
... to include his name, email address, and a thanks in the .txt file because it is common courtesy?

I was at Joshua Tree Roots fest this weekend.  Had a great time... Blue Turtle Seduction threw down and Rail Road Earth had a couple nice sets.  We got there and set up for Tim Easton the first night.  Sometime during the first set the SBD person comes out to talk to me.  He asked me to put info in the txt thanking him for the mix.  Said it was common courtesy and a way to get his name out there.  There were 4-5 other tapers there and for some reason I was the only one that he asked.  Anyone else ever have this happen?

Yep!  I had a guy ask me to include that on any CD I distributed. This show wasn't even uploaded anywhere.  The guy wasn't very friendly in other ways, so I never bothered to do it.  I guess it is fair, and I might have obliged, but I just got indifferent vibes from this guy in any other dealings I had with him.

This is something to consider, though.  After all, the sound guy makes a huge difference, probably more than we tapirs do...

I think we should be doing this as a common practice.  And we should be giving copies back to sound guys and the venues so they remember us.  (Note to self: give copy to the Truckers sound guy...).

Although, there is a potential downside.  Suppose the band really didn't want a copy to get out.  Or didn't want a board patch to get out.  Or, maybe they just forgot or changed their mind later on.  That sound guy could get in trouble at some point down the line.  But I'm probably worrying too much here.  Most bands probably can't even remember what gig was released!

while i think it would be cool for a shout out to the sound guy if he helped make it possible (i.e., got you in, gave you a patch) for you record the gig; as a general rule of thumb, to thank the sound guy for doing his job is kinda... well whatever...
asked me to put info in the txt thanking him for the mix.  Said it was common courtesy and a way to get his name out there
that is just silly...
maybe if it was a live recording for release where people are getting points on sales... i dont know what i'd do...  :-\

Best advice ever!  I have run in to problems on several occassions until the house sound guy was called and remember me.  Besides, it's just the right thing to do.

FWIW, I ALWAYS acknowledge FOH personnel when applicable.  Don't mean squat to the recording, but it sure makes folks feel good to see their name in lights!

seems like a reasonable request, whenever we pull a great tape of a PA'ed show, it is due to the sound guy!

I have only done it for Josh from HBRSB and Armando BTS because these dudes are some of the nicest taper friendly sound guys around and they deserve major props. Hey china>rider are ya going to upload the blue turtle seduction sets to archive.org or btetree.org? Would love to get them up on archive.org so jsut let me know if ya need any help.
Peace
