why are my channels swapped..? and how do i fix this..?
« on: November 11, 2006, 11:31:41 PM »
using an echo indigo dj card > blue sky media desk

media desk speakers are set up correctly (left to listener's left ear), but the output is swapped (using the mini > 2 rca cable that came with the echo)...

the wierd thing is that using the echo's headphone out, the channels are fine (assuming my etymotic ear buds are labelled correctly...

so since those are ok, i am reticent to swap the channels in the daw or in the control panel for the sound card. but if i switch the right and left cables, then my channels would still be screwed for mix down, right (meaning it would be wrong n everybody else's system)..?

please help.

thx, in advance.

looks like the cable that came with teh echo soundcard was backwards... i tried another mini > 2x rca cable i had (the ratshack variety), and the channels are where they were supposed to be...

wow! is it common that cables that have the red and white designations mixed are shipped to the consumer..?

talking to myself, i guess, but...

this could get moved to the computer recording foum, as it involves a soundcard and monitor system...

(it fits here, too, but upon reflection, fits better over there 8) )

sit with your back to the computer?    :P

Sorry, bad joke.
Are you sure the drivers are up to date?
Have you taken a meter to the cable to see if it was wired correctly?

From  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_plug  :
Stereo sockets commonly provide two such NC contacts, one for the tip (left channel live) and one for the ring or collar (right channel live). Some designs of jack also have such a connection on the sleeve, as this contact is usually ground it is not much use for signal switching but could be used to indicate to electronic circuitry that the socket was in use..
