newb: removing some clap spikes in wavelab
« on: December 17, 2006, 07:30:18 PM »
Hi guys -
I have been enjoying reading through the archives quite a bit recently.  I have access to wavelab these days and I want to edit a couple of my recordings.  I mostly want to remove super loud claps from between songs.  Can anyone offer some insight?

Thanks

I use the dynamic compressor on just the applause portions.  Sometimes the applause is heavy over the performance and that is more tricky.  I mostly use the -12 and -20 soft limiter with multiple passes over the same selection.

The stock compression curves need to be tweaked.. I found these tips very helpful:

I saw that earlier today.  I guess I should say a bit more about the recording.  It is a singer songwriter with orchestra.  The actual music has a wide dynamic range, but the audience is much louder and over powering.  One thought I had was to use the soft-knee limit you suggest on the between song audience noise, and then normalize the result down a bit to match the rest of the music.  I think I might just use a limiter very selectively on some passages where my neighbors were clapping.  Any thoughts?
