It will work with a Rat Shack frankencable (adaptaplug).  It's M on the battery side.  Don't know what the R-4 plug is, but I believe it has been discussed on a number of threads.

it's a 'B' tip on the other end.

Well, I spoke to Edirol tech support about the HD Slow issue.  They suggested trying things out at 24/48 when doing my next four channel recording, to see whether the issue arises again.  This is somewhat lame to me, as I bought this deck for the specific ability to be able to record four channels at 24/96.  According to the tech, who has been extremely helpful overall since I got the machine, there is no "know" problem with the R-4 Pro hard drives.  This is not what I really wanted to hear.  I may or may not get to run four channel tonight, and will report back.

Well, I spoke to Edirol tech support about the HD Slow issue.  <snip>

Without providing repeatable steps to Edirol, I'm not surprised that's all they said.  This really illustrates the importance of controlled testing on your part to try to identify how to repeat the issue.  You don't necessarily have to be able to repeat it -every- time through a given series of steps, but some level of repeatability will help in the discussions with Edirol and make them more likely to provide the service you want.

Well, last night I did not have a board patch, so I was just running my mics.  Ran stereo at 24/96, lots of bass and booms, no real deck vibration and no HDD Slow message or buffer movement.  So I am starting to accumulate some different field data.

Further update.  Last night ran four channels, at 24/48.  My deck was only about 8 feet back from the stack, on a table.  The table was vibrating, but the foam the deck was on, kept it pretty steady.  No HDD slow, and no buffer movement at all.  So now I have run 24/96 two channel, and 24/48 four channel without any issues.  May try 24/88.2 four channel next.

To update my situation, I ran 24/48 2 X Stereo on Friday with fresh batteries and had no issues.

Just to clarify, when I said four channel, I meant stereo x 2, in each case two channel digital, and two analog.
