the 722 sounds better than the ACM 671 ?
not to my ears.

go w/the mics first...recorder 2nd. 
if you dont really care for the 24bit world, I'd get one of those Oade mod'd ACM 660 (marantz, CF based recorder).  Its VERY high end sounding, and sounds sick w/the neumanns or just about anything you can plug into it.
