LSD2 or Peluso cemc6?
« on: March 26, 2007, 10:49:16 AM »

I'm still fighting with myself over which one to get. The new mics will run into my PMD660 ACM. I've heard some recordings with both and they both sound good. Would one be better than the other in small bars, etc.? Didn't know if there could be any disadvantages to the LSD2 in smaller venues? I would love to find some recording from the same venue with both the lsd2 and pelusos going into a PMD660 ACM but haven't had any luck on that front.

Both are nice mics.  One is a ld singlepoint, the other are sd's.  You have to ask yourself, do you want to be limited to coincedent patterns (xy, midside, blumlein)?  If you prefer coincident techniques (which sound great for ld's), then this may be your mic.  If you like running near coincident (best for sd mics, IMO of course) or splits, then the Peluso's may be your best bet.

Hi,

You really can't go wrong with either choice in my opinion. I've owned both mics at one time or another and loved the results I got with both. If you want a lower profile set-up, then I would go with the Pelusos. The Pelusos combined with the ACM 660 would be an extremely compact set-up for shows.

Another thing to keep in mind is the Pelusos give you the added option of running the hyper-cardoid pattern, which I prefer to do in a chatty bar. The LSD2 does not offer a hyper pattern. The Pelusos also give you the option to run split omnis, the LSD2 does not (since it is a single bodied stereo mic). Peluso offers matched omni, hyper, subcard, and cardioid capsules for purchase. You will probably end up spending more money on the Pelusos if you wanted to run the additional capsule options.

On the other hand the LSD2 gives you the option to run Blumlein, and mid-side, since it offers the figure 8 pattern. There is no figure eight pattern capsule offered for the Pelusos.

It really depends on your situation. Weigh out the options I've listed and make the choice based on your type of taping.

Either way, you will be happy with the sound of your new mics.
