Not sure about this but is there any way to make the 4th gen 20gb ipod a recorder?

answered my own question, rockbox makes it a pcm recorder in stereo, seems a little tricky to operate(maybe thats why the irivers work better) but hell i had this thing basically just sitting around and now its another recording toy
