Planning on taping show with 2 Audio Technicas thru M-BOX
« on: June 28, 2007, 07:41:41 PM »
Like the subject says, I plan on taping a show using 2 Audio Technica's routed through an M-BOX plugged up to a laptop... I don't really even know where I'm going to be at during the concert, so I'm a bit nervous about how this might wind up turning out... If anyone can give any advice, that'd be great... This will be my first time attempting to tape a show... In a years time I hope to have a setup involving Neumann's and whatnot, but right now I'm just using some microphones that I've had for a while [And used for vocal recordings and whatnot for my band]... Thanks in advance. The show will be in August, so it's a long ways away, but hopefully once it's all said and done, I can put up a semi-decent recording... I hope so.. I really do... Anyways, like I said, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I run at853's into m-audio mobilepre ->usb -> ibook -> soundstudio. i enjoy the recordings i make.  but one of these days i'll upgrade the rig.  but it works pretty damn solidly for me.  lots of info on the board do some searches.  i recently found the thread on the perfect diy kwon bars. and made myself one of those.  i need to post some pics of that.  I suggest doing some practice runs at home in front of the stereo or for your band...set everything up just like its the real deal get comfortable with setting everything up, plugging it all together, geting the laptop running, the software recognizing the mic's, setting your levels.  and now the laptop.  i'm pretty paranoid with it being out at bars, clubs, etc. alot more than i was with the d8.  so maybe you can come up with some good arrangement, a bag, box, something for protection that will help ease your mind and contain the cables, mbox and lappy.
once again lots of wonderful information on this board spend some time researching.
cheers. and good luck. dave

Thanks for the advice. I think what I'm going to wind up doing is using an Audio Technica and also a Shure microphone.. We are going to bring drums over to my pad, have 2 amps turned up pretty loud, and jam for about 15 minutes. In that period in time, my buddy's girlfriend is going to adjust the microphone volumes, and get everything good, then play it back, see how it sounds.. After that, we are going to alternate between microphones and whatnot, and see what turns up the best. I plan on doing this Sunday, as I am going to be hanging out with my buddy. Thanks again for the advice, I really do appreciate it. One of these days I'm going to get the scratch to get a Neumann mic setup, with a Lunatec v3, and I was looking at some harddisk recorders [Or I might run with the M-Audio Multi-Track 24/96]... Either way, it'll probably run me around 2 grand, and definitely less if I have the money when someone posts something up in the Yard Sale. [How does the theme song to Good Times go again? "Temporary Lay-offs, good times!" hahaha]

I really love this site, and once I get my job squared away, I'm going to try to be a supporter for at least a month. I really love what this site does, and the information it provides. Gotta love conversing with people that have the same passions as you. [That reminds me, I just recently listened to moe. for the first time.. Never heard their studio stuff, but their playing live is immaculate.] Anyways, much love & peace, cheers!
