This may seem like a silly question, but is there a good, working battery (or a battery at all for that matter) in the battery box?
Right now nothing...in the past: Schoeps CMC6, AKG 480, AKG 460, AKG 414, MBHO 603a, Neumann KM100, ADK TL>Schoeps MK4, Schoeps MK2, Schoeps MK41, AKG ck61, AKG ck62, AKG ck63, Neumann AK40, Neumann AK50, MBHO ka200>Lunatec V2, Lunatec V3, Apogee Mini-Me, Oade M148, Oade M248, Sound Devices MP2, Sonosax SXM2>Sony (mod)SBM1, Apogee AD500>D7, D8, D100, M1, R1, R4, R09, iRiver HP120, Microtrack

My thought as well, although the preamp I bought from Chris came with a battery so i would think the battery box would have one, too.

Perhaps a dead battery?
One quick way to check a 9v is to place the two terminals on your tongue, briefly. You will feel a tingling, if the battery is OK.

Yes, there is a battery in it, a 9v. I checked it yesterday, the tester says it works.

Make sure that the INPUT is going to your mics and the output is going to your recorder.. If that is correct I suspect your cable going to the battery box.

You sold me it... >:(

Does the iRiver H120 need to be RockBox-ed to check the battery box?

If by chance, I can't use the battery box right now, I'm going to a concert on Fri, will it be ok without?

Try a different, known-good battery.
