FLAC questions
« on: August 22, 2007, 05:47:04 PM »
:)So now that I've got the show into CD WAV, and split it, I can save as flac to my desktop, open FLAC FE drag/drop them and then what?  I've read in earlier post about testing them.  I do that and the dos window comes up and tests them.  Then I move them into a new folder on the external HDD.  Do I need to encode, decode or tag confirm?  When I hit fingerprint I get a FLAC folder.  Now what.

Also I seem to need to have to have my Tascam DA-P1DAT source)powered on for the files to play in winamp or CD WAV.  As soon as I turn it off, the files stop playing.  Any guesses?  Thanx folks.  We're gettin' there.

Try using this program when dealing with FLAC

http://thor.prohosting.com/roh0205/

Traders little helper will convert back and forth between WAV SHN FLAC or what ever you want.  It also has the test audio files tab that will calculate the peramiters for you and create a checksum file in what ever format you want.  It really easy to use

Decode if they are in FLAC to WAV or Encode from WAV to FLAC.

This should solve all your problems.  Just read the tutorial.  Wikipedia has allot of info and so does wiki etree

Good Luck

TLH is the tried and true standard with traders.  I like foobar as it does all that TLH does and more: burns, rips, tag and plays with about zero footprint.  And it is geek to the max if you get off on that.  There is a lot of support for it at hydrogen.org and at foobar2000.org.  Has plugins to cover what is not already programmed into it, too.

Cheers

Ooops, does not do fingerprinting.  I use FLAC front end for that and CD WAV Editor for tacking and compressing with FLAC 8.

Cool!  Thanx guys.  I actually got some fingerprints from a P&F 01' show I transferred from my master.  Now I am really getting it.  So is CD Wav a good program to be using for actually recording from DAT to my PC.  Seems to be or is it more for making CDs?  Or should I pay for ProTools?  Thanx.

CD Wave Editor is for editing CD waves files to insert the tracks into a solid file.  The nice thing is that it always makes the cut on sector boundaries so you never get the annoying click at the end or beginning of a track caused when you are not on a sector boundary.  It also save to FLAC, MP3, Ogg or WAV.  It will also burn a CD.  Pretty slick.  It does not do any fancy editing.  It will record to HD a file you have somewhere else, i.e., a real-time transfer. More info available at www.cdwave.com
