Topic: I'm a newbie, and I need some mini-disc help.....please...

This is my 1st time here, somebody from my other board suggested this place for help so here goes!

I got a mini disc player(Sony MZ-R700 a little portable thing). I finally got all my stuff to record my band in stereo, which was a huge hassle (thanks hungover/still drunk guy at radio shack). So I got the recording on the minidisc, now I have this PC link deely that goes from the minidisc into the PC Link box, into the USB. Now I plugged it into my cpu, and I don't hear anything, and I'm pretty sure I can't record from the USB.

I hate computers.

I just want to make a CD of what's on my minidisc!!! What the hell do I need to buy now? Do I need a special progam to make like a DAO CD recording without the skips? Can I or should I just use the sound recorded to make .WAV files?? Why can't I hear anything when it's plugged in the USB? Is what I want to do (however simple it sounds to me) impossible?? How do I get a recording on the CPU?? What am I doing, please please help me!!!!

Only the most recent SONY minidiscs can upload digitally to a PC.  There is software, SoundStage, which SONY gives with their MD's for manipulation of on MD files.  However, you may only be able to get your files to the PC by a real-time analog transfer.  That means play back the files over a connection to line-in on your sound card and record it in real-time to a file on the PC.  For better advice go to minidisc.org where the real gurus are.

boojum is absolutely right.
short of going the Hi-MD way, you have to transfer the audio real-time by connecting to your PC with a 3.5mm audio cable, hitting the Play button on your MD and the Rec button on your favorite audio editing software (like Audacity). Burning your CD from there is straightforward.

Some MD decks have Optical Out, so if you're dedicated, go pick up one at a thrift store, get a sound card with Optical In for your PC, there is one less step for you to lose information...
But the Hi-MD way is the only way to transfer data in full speed over USB.

The PC Link is only good for recording onto your MD from your computer.  In your case...  MD headphone output to your soundcard's line input is the only way to go.
