they've seriously updated this app.  Wave Editor used to use Core Audio for all resampling, and I think had very basic dithering. 

i'll have to check out the demo

well it can handle files larger than 2gb.  i just opened a new file and pasted in 2 1.8 gig 24/88.2 files and it's handling it all fine.  It uses its own format that I believe uses xml to string multiple files into 1


since it's Universal, i'll report back with how long it takes to resample the whole show in it on the MacBook Pro.  it took around an hour in Spark

says it'll take 29 minutes.  I like that

but I've definitely found some bugs...1 specific one being the large file handling.  I've got a 5.7 gig project saved as a Wave Editor project, and it shows the full waveform.  but it won't play anything past the 1 hour 40 minute mark....

v1.3.0 should fix the bug I found related to large file handling. i don't think it'll be out for a while, though

i've been emailing back and forth with support, who are very helpful.  they told me they're working to add wav64 support in now. 

that's good news.  I think i'll ditch spark for good when the next version of Wave Editor is out

This is the information they sent me on the large file issue.

"Sorry about this.  Ultimately, we should have been presenting a warning dialog
that disallows the creation of files larger than this.  It was something we
didn't foresee.  All in all, if you wanted to, you could create a CoreAudio
(CAF) or SDII file in the meantime (they don't have limits).  RF64 and WAV64 are
extensions to the WAV format that allow for 64-bit lengths and thus files larger
than the 2GB (signed) and 4GB (unsigned) file size limitation.  1.3 should
support all of these.  Beware though that not all audio apps support these
formats either, so you you will be able to save with WE, but the files may not
open in other apps.

If you need anything else, give us a shout."

why haven't i seen this thread before. is this what all mac users are using these days?
i may have to give this a try. and i see they have an educational pricing plan too.

i really dont use spark's interface so i rarely use it, so i have been using cubase or using the old pc with wavelab.

and why doesnt steinberg make a mac version of wavelab?  i think wavelab is my favorite stereo editor program that i have used.

I've been using WE for almost a year now and really like it. It has lots of stuff I'll never use but it's nice to know it's there. It is kind of a memory hog ( I have to be careful with 1G but will fix that when I get some cash) and if you've got a slower old Mac, you'll spend a lot of time waiting for processing but 1.3 is much better. I've been beta testing it for what seems like forever (it's up to release candidate 11) but the speed, features, sound quality and price couldn't be much better. They have a forum over on Big Blue Lounge.
BTW it helps if you think in Photoshop images.
