JB3 Crashed!!!
« on: September 30, 2007, 12:37:25 AM »
Is there any way to get data off of a crashed JB3?

Here is what happened.

I taped Martin Sexton last night. I came home, plugged the JB3 into my desktop to download, and it wouldn't download.

Being 2am and frustrated, I yanked it out and plugged it into my stereo via mini to listen to the show.

The JB3 locked up on the EAX screen. I looked online to troubleshoot.

I found that I needed to reset the JB3. I tried this a few times, only to find it still loading on the EAX screen.

In the rescue mode I reloaded the OS. This erased the old OS.  I downloaded the new firmware. Unit says it is "updating firmware".

Once this cleared, the JB3 power cycled and never turned back on. I've tried the reset, power cycle, etc. Nothing happens.

I finally got VERY frustrated, took the unit apart and unplugged the HD. That didn't work either.

So, now I am stuck with a bad JB3 and a HD that has data I really want to get off of it.

Two questions:

If I reloaded the OS, does this mean that I deleted the existing data on the drive, i.e. the show I just taped?

Is there anything salvageable with this unit, or should I just hang on to it for parts?

This SUX!!!!

It's not a normal DOS FAT file system anyway so it's not like you could have popped it in a PC and recovered the files or anything. Sorry for your troubles though. +t for effort but I think the FAQ has some bold letters about not re-loading OS from the ROM. Live and learn...
