buffer underrun problem
« on: January 02, 2008, 03:08:57 PM »
so in the past couple weeks feurio starts giving me buffer underrun errors whenver i try and burn a disc.  sometimes a full disc will burn, sometimes it will progress to a certain point then give me an error.  sometimes the program freezes alltogether and i have to start burning again.  i am running feurio 1.68, my burner is "NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A.  i have tried burning with other programs up as well as closing everything else out, there are still problems.  is there any way to remedy this or is it attributed to a bad burner.  just did my first run of taping shows(NRPS and RRE) and want to get them up but i want to burn my own copies first.  any help is appreciated!

Could easily be bad blank CDs/DVDs.  What brand are they and where did you buy them?  Unless you've burned over 1000 discs, I doubt the software is at fault.  Here's a reliable list of what media are considered "good." --> http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

I personally burn my video masters to Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs for single-layer and Verbatim DVD+R's for dual-layer and those discs have never failed me in quality or longevity.

I have never heard of the software feurio.  You should try a different software app.  I can recommend:

Nero Burning ROM
http://www.nero.com
not free
After version 7 it started becoming more bloated and with junk I would never use.

ImgBurn

Freeware

If it's happening on multiple burning programs, I'd say it's the burner.  As cheap & easy to replace as they are, I find it the easiest solution.  I just replaced mine, after reading about numerous workarounds for its various issues (so I'd personally not suggest an LG, but YMMV).

im a pretty experienced trader, so im using the right methods and cds.  it has happened with multiple programs, i used roxio just to see if it worked and it fucks up even faster than feurio.  the burner is about 3.5 years old so im guessing it may have burned its last disc.  where would be the best/most cost effective place to purchase a new external?

Check www.salescircular.com for deals near you.

I've bought at Circuit City, Best Buy, even Wal-Mart.  Whomever has the model I want at a good price.

You can often save a lot ordering online.
