Firewire 410 and XP Pro
« on: November 17, 2004, 09:17:27 AM »
Anyone running a f410 and XP Pro?

I just built a new desktop PC and I wanted a dual boot system.  So I split my C: drive into two partitions and read about making a dual boot machine for Winblow$ over at Micro$lut.com.  I install Win2K first for surfing/email/etc and load on all of my extraneous crap.  Then I installed Win XP Pro and stripped down all of the services for a recording build.  I only loaded on Wavelab and the latest f410 drivers.  I do a couple of test recordings and even after major buffer tweaks got clicks EVERY time.  EVERY time.

I thoguht maybe it was a problem with SP1, so I let SP2 on.  No Luck.  I was sure that I fugged something up while tweaking down all of the XP services, so I re-formated the partition and reloaded on a plain-jane copy of SP1...still has clicks.

I finally gave up on XP and loaded on a second copy of WIN2K on and then Wavelab and the f410 drivers.  Now it records fine, so I did my tweaks and it still records fine.

I didn't think about it until just now but maybe I should have rolled back the driver one version.

Anyone here use XP Pro and a f410?  (I use XP home on my laptop for taping.)

I have done all my recording with the drivers that came with my unit. however I have just updated the drivers to the newest ones from the website but I have not tested.  I need to do some tests, I'm a little busy now, but when I do check the newest drivers I'll let you know.

I had the same problem on Win 2K. I was using the WDM driver within Wavelab. When I switched to the ASIO driver my problems went away. HTTH.

interesting.  i also have a new handbuilt quadcore with XP and was using the 410, primarily as an audio out.  before i got to any transfers, however, the desktop crashed and failed to reboot.  once i have the desktop working again, i'll play around and see how it does.  i have a couple transfers to do.
There’s three ways to do things: the right way, the wrong way, and the Max Power way....Isn’t that the wrong way?....Yeah, but faster!
