Logitech Wireless Music System for PC
« on: December 11, 2007, 10:15:27 AM »
Anyone have any experience with this product?  I am looking for something similar to the squeezebox, but without the expense.  I have a very modest playback setup, sony receiver, 2 nice speaks, and a powered sub.  All of my files are 16bit.  Seems perfect for my needs, but I would like some ts opinions... thanks.  pb

I think I just found my solution for 23$ shipped.

is there a big difference in fidelity for high/low end RCA cables?? also, is splitting an 1/8th inch jack two ways a bad idea?  would i be losing half my signal strength if I wanted to listen in the computer and living rooms simultaneously?

Does the receiver you're going to have a digital input?  If so you may want to do Chaintech AV-710 -> Optical Run -> Reciever

Yes, but what do you HEAR?

It'll be a much cleaner signal, and optical is good for 50'.

I have the logitech, works great for simple playback. Never had a problem in the year I have owned it. I like to play all my files through foobar2000. If you want to go wireless on the cheap, it is well worth it. Only drawback is the software they offer with it make playing on your computer speakers, while sending a signal to your stereo a real pain, because it does not wok every time.

what happens after 50'?  Just so happens I will probably need 60-75...

Great sound on the cheap!

could I couple a few of these together somehow...

as much as I hate to say it... the rca route is seeming a hell of a lot easier and cheaper at this point... once you start talking about new sound card, optical cables, couplers. etc etc .. all my files are in 16 bit anyways and I dont really have any plans to move into 24 in the near future... although I'm sure It would sound a little better out front... and since i've basically been listening to music through an ipod for the last few years, that would probably be a substantial improvement for me... ahh  :-\ i'm torn.  the cheapskate in me says dont do it, and the gear slut says doo eet mang  >:D

How about an Apple Airport Express, especially if you are already using Itunes. Very simple setup.

Sure it is.  You can use it with a PC no problem, you just have to use Itunes to stream.

is their any reason why a run of rca is better than 1/8" miniplug?  i found 75 feet of 1/8" mini for like 15$ shipped.  thanks for all the good suggestions, will hark back on this thread when i'm not a poor grad student/musican.  ha!   +t all around, pb
