just looking around.  anyone have any feedback on this setup?  is it worth putting a V3 in front of the 722?

140>722 sounds nice.  I like the V3 in there a bit better and it's worth the extra size.  But 140>722 alone is still damn nice.  There will be a comp posted in the next day or two.

not 'exactly' what you are looking for but there guys offer great deals from time to time....

About a year and a half ago they had a full skm150 bstock set that I split w/ someone who needed the enitre set minus the bodies and the wooden box. I got the bodies and box for $500 - so check back often. If you can live with bstock, they could be a viable option. Good luck (and don't forget about the MG's  ;))

O yea, if you have a V3 keep it - just gives you more options/flexibility....  :coolguy:

Also worth looking at the new Neumann KM-D series and going straight in in digits.

Mono is easy, stereo really needs the DMI-2 box.

I am using the omni version with the Fostex FR-2 at the moment, but may upgrade to an SD or Nagra next year for the recorder.

Oh - the KM-D series will be expanded next year with more capsules and remote cables like the current KM 100 series.

Worth considering before you commit on the analogue.

In the UK - a starter kit of one mic and basic connection kit (NOT DMI-2) is about £899.

The UK price of a KM 184-D (183 and 185 is the same) is £799
The UK price of a stereo set (without DMI-2) is £1,599
The UK price of the DMI-2 is £599

This is the maximum price without VAT that a dealer would sell for - what the street price will be, I have no idea.

I am seriously considering this rig combo. anyone have any more thoughts?

I personally love the 483's in front of the 722. I'm thinking I may also like the 140's. I'm just worried b/c a lot of stuff I record is loud, rock concerts off the PA (think disco biscuits). I'm hoping to be just as happy with the 140's, and not kicking myself for leaving the 483's at home.

One deciding factor for me right now is the actives. I want to slim down as much as possible without wanting to add a V3 in the mix.

Do you think in certain situations bass roll off would be an option with 140>>722 in crappy venues?

Yes but not just with a crappy venue.  When I record Mule 140>722 the bass is orgasmic on my home system with the subwoofer and HPF to the mains.  In the car or on a normal consumer playback system it can be overwhelming so I apply HPF in post when making tracks for listening in the car.

You are going to get more of the room with the ak40s than with the ck63s.  If you want hypers try the ak50s, otherwise the ak40s FOB into 722 make an awesome tape with a very compact rig.
