using CA ST-1000 with a battery powered mic

So ive used my sony ECM-957 with good results in the past.  I recently got my CA preamp in the mail.  Is it a good idea to use the pre with the already battery powered mic?  it seems like the recordings from the ECM were a little quiet so maybe the amp would help with that?  Also, should I use the HPF setting?  Not sure exactly what that is.  Any suggestions are appreciated.  BTW, the show is P Groove in Roanoke, VA tonight.

I don't see why not, but then again I know nothing about this stuff... The battery provides mic powering for better SPL handling, the pre gives you additional gain, which are two different things.
This question keeps popping up, it would be interesting to hear Chris view on it. Bip bip Mr Church...

The pre, while also adding gain, is also a battery box for the mic. I think that might be too much power for that type of mic.

I've used two Sony 908c mics at different times in conjunction with a SP preamp and the AA battery installed for voice recording.  I've never had a problem.

i asked this a while back, and chris said that it could damage the mics, and the preamp.
