bhphotovideo.com then navigate thusly:

Home < Lighting & Studio < General Lighting Accessories < Lightstands & Booms < Lightstands < General Purpose

sort by height and then "lowest price first".
plenty of options.  I've got a 9' black somethin' or another that kicks ass, and was barely $50.

I use a PIC Featherlite 4709:

I'd guess it's a good chance it is the most compact 9' stand you'll find.  Folds to only 21-22" long and about 2.5-3" in diameter and only weighs a couple pounds.  It goes to 9', but really only if you are using actives -- it can't take too much weight when fully extended.  I like it because it is very small and easy to carry around, and it works as a tall section stand, an fob stand, or a on-stage stand.

It's not as compact as the manfrotto 3373 that many use for a fob stand, and it's minimum height is taller, so it's not quite as good as an fob stand when you need to be pretty much completely stealth before the show when the house lights are on, but otherwise it works fine for fob.  But then again, it goes to 9' not just 6-7' like the 3373, so it is more flexible.

Only downside is it only comes in silver.  I've got mine spraypainted black, which has held up under haevy use for several years now.
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards
Preamp:  none <sniff>
Recorders:  Sound Devices MixPre-6, Sony PCM-M10, Zoom H4nPro

this is the one I use.  does it all for me, and is sturdy enough for the LSD2.

Was searching for info on stands: Sorry to bump this but, i don't understand the comment "you need to be pretty much completely stealth before the show when the house lights are on". I assume the poster was talking about an open taping situation, so why the need to be stealth while the lights are up?

Many bands don't like tapers to set up in the rows in front of the sound board.

to answer your question, id say that of 9-10' mic stands, the 9' is DEF. the most compact ;)
