ISO: used mics (stealth and non-stealth)
« on: May 16, 2008, 07:32:47 PM »
Hey all, I just bought an Edirol R-9.  I love my recorder, but I need to get some mics for it now.  I had a pair of unknown stealth mics, but were destroyed by my cat.  I am looking to buy used mics from someone.  I'm looking for stealths and non-stealths.  Being a new taper, I really don't know what I'm looking for...please advise.  I'm looking to spend no more than $200-$250 (I'm also willing to trade/barter...I have alot of music related rarities/collectables).  Please help!!!!!!!  So many shows to tape...so little time.  Please respond to me via e-mail.  Thanks!

For stealth, go to the retail section of the board and look at Church Audio mics.  Chris Church makes good quality mics and pre's with nice prices.  I don't think the mics will survive a cat attack though. :P
Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

I have some used Sound Professionals CMC-4's for sale.  They've worked well for me in stealth and non-stealth situations... check over in Yard Sale.
They're wired for Chris Church's ST9100 preamp. I've gotten some great recordings with this setup, running into the line in jack of my R-09.

Hehehe... that's awesome.  +T!

I have AT853s (CMC-4) from Sound Professionals that were originally around $200 (+$35 for the 4.7k/low sensitivity mod) and I'm very satisifed with them.  Microphone Madness also has their HLSC mics (Sennheiser MKE40) for around $250 new and reportedly sound great, and of course, everyone around these parts swears by Church Audio's CA-11 (aka STC-11) mics, which are the most affordable of the bunch.  I've used those too with great success.

Speaking from my experience, the HLSC mics sounds great. I'm also using the HLSO omnis (Sennheiser MKE 2) and they are awesome. ;)
