R-09 firmware upgrade without AC adapter?
« on: July 01, 2008, 01:19:46 PM »
So, I can't find my wall wart for this puppy. I know that it is not recommended to do a firmware update without it but if I'm running fresh-out-of-the-package batteries is there really that much of a risk?

I realize that this is a better question for Edirol support but I was hoping somebody here has done it sans AC. Don't worry, if you tell me it worked for you and I proceed to brick my device, no harm, no foul.

Thanks for your aid.

I used my 2650 Duracell rechargeable batteries and that did the trick for the upgrade.

Thanks. I think I'll look for the adapter a little further then probably give it a go without. Version 1.31 is not that important to me as I don't currently have a card >4gig. I just wanted to know it was possible.

Thanks again. +T

I've never used the AC adapter for anything, including firmware upgrades.
I've done a few upgrades . . . always under battery power.
Don't knock yourself looking for it . . . it's not necessary.  :)

I decided not to be such a sissy and just upgrade on battery power. No problems, whatsoever.  8)

Now if I could just find that 4gig SD card I misplaced.  :-[

Thanks for the help.

+T for being such a brave soul. I'm not: I did use the AC adapter because in case something went wrong, Roland Brasil would give me a real hard time. :P

I get nervous in case there's a power cut/dip when I do a firmware upgrade

Well then you probably need to do the upgrade on a laptop on batteries and your r09 on batteries as well.  :D

Just a note, their concern is power loss (flat batteries) during the upgrade. If you make sure your batteries are fresh at the start you will have no chance of a power outage in the 1 minute the whole procedure takes. Frankly in most parts of the world wall-power is not all that reliable either :P
