Restringing AT8410a Shock mounts
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:30:37 PM »
Thought I would pass along a tid bit of info.  I love these shock mounts however overtime the elastic bands wear out.  I took up the slack restrung them and after another 2 years their dead.  No bouncy, no shocky.  So I was perplexed as to what to do.  These shocks aren't cheap and I didn't feel like spending money on new ones.  So I tried to find the bands. No luck.  So I thought to my self what store has everything, Walmart.  I found Long Hair Bands thick black ones, more robust than the original bands.  For 2.12$ I got 6, went home and whola the shock mounts are like new.  Plus 4 spares.

Those that are interested in new bands you can find them in the hair section.  They are manufactured by a company called "Goody"  ouchless.  The manuf. number is 30363.

I know some don't like Walmart and well I don't always agree with their practices, it beat paying a hole lot more for either new mounts or 5-15buck ? for new AT bands if I could even find them.

Good to know those work.  Just so you know you should be able to find these at almost any store (grocery, drug store, target).  They are very popular for those of us with long hair.

One other tip. If you go the replacement elastic from AT route, restring them one at a time; don't disassemble the pair, set them aside for a couple of days and then think you'll be able to get them strung in the five minutes before you need to be heading out the door.

I learned the hard way. Had to use some back-up shocks. Then spent about twenty minutes the next day getting them restrung.

Yeah that is pretty much true for any of the spider style band configurations.

One of the first things I did when I got my ADKs was take *one* of the shockmounts apart and rebanded it.  It was harder than I thought, definitely helps to have one to look at.
