What would the best way to record a phone conversation?

If your phone has a headphone jack, you could just run line-out into a recorder...  and then run headphones out of your recorder...  I think that should work...  and you probably already have the gear that's needed.

Have you ever used this device? Why does it have to be so expensive???

TotalRecorder (Canada) makes software for this purpose.  It carries each conversation on its own track, duplex.  It is only duplex.

It is not expensive and a good tool.  It does other stuff, too, like record from the internet.

Canadian quality throughout and free updates.
