The Zoom H2MC seems to be a winner at $8.99 It's got a camera tripod thread which is OK as I have Mic to Tripod adaptors

Yeah, what he said. Here's my $4 bike grip from REI with a 3/8-16 bolt, a couple washers and a nut that I use as a handle for running a shotgun mic. Nice squishy feel and ergonomic shape.

Greetings, apologies for not replying. I wasn't watching this thread (I haven't got one yet BTW, been busy)

I have two intended uses -

1. Attach to the bottom of a Rode suspension...



2. To attach to this stereo-bar...

My experience with the homemade handle, and I doubt it would be different with the pre-fabricated, is that a *LOT* of handling noise is transmitted through the handle when using something like a hard plastic or rubber mic clip and/or a t-bar. The Rycote shock mounts and even the AT8415 that I used are fine, but any less isolation, particulary with quiet environments and high gain will result in annoying handling noise. YMMV.

From the pictures, a lot of the handling noise will be coming up the cable.

I use short flexible XLR tails (when I'm not using a Rycote ConnBox) and loop and anchor them to prevent this happening.

how does the dowel fit into the bike handgrip?

There's no dowel in mine.

I bought a pair of Summit Foam ATB Grips from a local bike store
then bought a 3/8" x 6" bolt, 2 washers and a 3/8" nut
I thought that filling the inside with something like silicon glue would be a good idea
so I went to the hardware store and bought a can of 'Great Stuff' insulating foam sealant
it took a few tries to get it filled since the contents tends to expand very quickly and doesn't fill the interior fully
it is also slightly messy to use
but once the foam sealant dries and hardens it can be cut and shaped and scraped off metal surfaces
I wasn't as lucky getting it off the foam grip itself
so next time I will tape over the grip so I don't have flecks of foam embedded in the grip handle
but functionally it works really well
