after numerous tries at formating on the r-1, and on my computer, i cannot get this thing to work.

turn on, hit record, hit record again (per the manual), and it goes right to "no song".

any suggestions?

Is it a genuine Kingston card bought from a Kosher source?

Could it be a fake???

I have never had problems with Kingston 2 and 4Gb cards in my R1.

Is it the kingston elite pro w/ the lizard or the flowers?  I had this same problem -- Kingston's customer service was excellent, and they sent me a few replacements from different batches, but I got the same error.  Sandisk's and Lexar's work perfectly though, so it has something to do with the newer Kingston cards (I've heard that the older Kingston plain blue elite pro's have worked for a lot of people, but when I was looking I couldn't find any of these).

sounds like you're having the exact same issues I did.  Just try a different brand (sandisk or lexar work for me) and you should be fine.  (at least the issue is almost certainly w/ the CF card and not your R1).

Personally I always use SanDisk cards - I have heard from various sources that these are the best for audio.

Did you get issues with the R1 worked out? I had zero problems with that unit. I used a Kingston 4gb card..
