never mind ! doh !
« on: May 23, 2011, 04:49:33 PM »
I dug out an old pair of mics and plugged them in to pre to test their condition.
There's noise - crackling and static, intermittent.
Otherwise the mics sound great.

Sounds like an LP spinning on a turntable with no audio on it - just the noise floor.

Anyone know what it is ?
Is it fixable, or not worth it ?

anyone ?

I see working ones in pawn shops from time to time. Maybe $50 each working.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Do they have batteries in them? If so might the combination of internals + phantom power be causing the problem? I can't remember whether one automatically overrides the other but if not it can't be good for them to have both.

Oh damn, it's a dynamic mic.
I was giving it phantom...oops
Yeah, I think that's the crackle sound.
 :banging head:  :yack:

I guess the D is for Dynamic (Dummy) :-\

It will take 48v phantom IIRC but not a good idea to feed it both types of power at the same time I guess!

Mistakenly thought you were referring to the C1000s.

I tested them again w/o phantom, and they sound great.
very sensitive.
I was hearing stuff outside from 2 rooms away.
not bad !

I'm posting them for sale in YS.
I'm just going thru my stuff, and cleaning house.
I don't need 1/2 of what I have...hasn't been used in years.
