Repairing phase issue?
« on: March 08, 2009, 11:43:36 PM »
I accidentally had the phase button pressed on the right channel of my Portico for the first 10 minutes of recording today. You can hear the exact point that I fixed it on the recording, kind of goes from a monoish sound to a full stereo sound. According to the Portico manual, this button changes the phase for that channel 180 degrees. Can this be fixed via software?

Edit to add: I mainly use soundforge 9 for editing

It can easily be fixed in software. Simply invert the channel in the beginning. At the exact point where you changed the setting there might be click or similar. No idea how you would this is Soundforge but it is a breeze in Samplitude.

I'm also familiar with SAM, but not SF.  Even so, one more comment:  if you can, invert phase at a zero crossing.  It should prevent or minimize any potential click as a function of the post-production (i.e. it won't remove a click generated by the real-time inversion that occurred while recording).

That did the trick.  In SF it is "invert/flip" on the "process" dropdown.

Thanks
