Get the DR-1 if you want to use internal mics to record your practices. Or get the Edirol R09HR if you want to use external mics.. Its a great recorder.

What Chris said: R09HR for external mics.

Are you/the kid going to run the mics open or stealth?

Get the DR-1 if you want to use internal mics to record your practices.

If you want to stick to low budget, DR-07 should have the same specs as DR-1 with the advantage of smaller size. I don't know if this has been verified with a side-by-side test, but that's the theory here...

You can rule out the MTII and Yamaha anyway. Internals are substandard for live use compared to the DR series.

Man,

Throwing a kid into the stealth set up, whatta concept  ;)

I have an edirol R-09HR and couldn't say enough good things about it.
