House Snake for Onstage Mics
« on: April 01, 2009, 11:16:30 AM »
When I"m at my usual haunt, the house engineers just let me put the mics in two channels, which they mute and I pull from the inserts. Is this the norm, or do most of you attach to the snake itself and provide your own phantom power?

It can work either way.
If you think your pre-amp is better then their pre-amps it would be better to just tap off of the snake instead of the board.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

I plug my mics into the FoH  onstage breakout box and unplug the cables (say 23 and 24) at the back of the soundboard and extend them into the R4...  AND as long as you are there ask about a monitor or aux out.

I like to use my pre/phantom, etc - allows me to maintain my normal workflow...just with really long mic cables...

With the permission of the engineer, pull the male jacks from two unused channels on the board.  Plug those cables into your deck and run like normal.  I would not recommend sending your signal through some channels; it's unnecessary.
