I've heard passable quality tapes of them made with DPA 4061, Church CA-11 and even the R-09's internal mics.  The key will be to watch your levels and be sure you run line-in.  I have no idea what the SPL level is of those shows but as the previous reply noted it is very high.  Good news is, if other tapers using similar small-mic setups were able to achieve it, you should be able to, though I would say this is probably not a situation where you want to be extremely close to the stack.  Besides that it would increase the chances of overloading the mics, it might severely damage your hearing, even with earplugs.

Oh yeah, be sure, absolutely sure, you have earplugs.  When I saw them they handed them out at the door, but don't be caught without them in any case.

one other thing: when the noise holocaust hits, just sit there and soak it in. one of the coolest experiences of my life is walking out of the aragon and still hearing it somehow, even though they'd been off stage for 20 minutes

Agreed. FOB location is probably the safest bet.

Gotta agree. Earplugs are the way to go.

My wife laughs at me when I put my earplugs in at gigs but I always remind her its only so I will be able to hear her dulcet tones when we are old and grey.

Somehow I managed to miss MBV back in the day, despite being really into them. I don't recall if it was because I had no money, they didn't play near enough, I just dropped the ball, whatever. Always wanted to see them, and please I got the chance to see the first of the warmup reunion shows.

Loud, hell yeah. It's a wall of sound. Not only were the band giving out free earplugs, there were notices taped up by the doors warning of the levels. I took my own plugs anyway. Their shows are legendary (both now and back in the day) for being super-loud. I believe Kevin's take on it is he wants the audience to "feel" the sound. There was a posting on the MBV forums a few months after the first dates, some poor guy saying his ears had been ringing non-stop for the past few months. You have been warned. (someone else on the forums had a sound meter, IIRC, don't remember the levels but it was dangerously high, even at the rear of the venue).

For this particular show, I knew it was going to be very special. I think I pitched up at the venue about 5 hours before doors (seriously.. I took the day off work!). Got a dialog going with the folks on the front desk, wandered away and came back a few hours later. Picked up the dialog where I left off, and basically was first in the door.  Got front row dead centre, and pulled what I thought was a pretty darned respectable recording.

I didn't go the 2nd warmup show, but I did go and tape the first 'official' night of the reunion tour, 2008-06-20 (London Roundhouse). That should be on Dime too (maybe no seeders right this instant?). I went along relatively late, intending to record from the rear of venue (out of curiosity, to see how different from stagelip the experience would be). As it happens, I bumped into some of the guys from the week before in the line, who graciously allowed me to join them, and so it was that I ended up stagelip for this night too! So yeah. My recordings give a good feel for stagelip MBV (I'm quite pleased with my 2nd show too).

And if that wasn't good enough, I got another great recording a few days later (Sigur Ros 2008-06-24). Best run of recording I've had in ages

I caught the U.S. "re-debut" at the ATP Festival in upstate New York.  I am furious that I did not bring my gear (I had "retired" from taping at that point).  The only recording I've found is on a guy's blog, in MP3, and apparently recorded with the included mic on the R-09 (my guess).  It doesn't sound bad, but it's got nothing on your DPA 4061 recordings.  I've listened to your Roundhouse one... really nice.  I downloaded the other one and hope to listen to it this weekend.  I think the DPAs pick the show up better than actual human ears, since my ears were so overloaded by the sound (even with earplugs).  It's funny, I guess Shields does not care whether the vocals are really heard at all as the wall of sound mostly overwhelms them.  It is definitely a unique concert experience.

Well.. if you listen to the studio albums, the vocals are way down in the mix. it's all about the layers of guitars. Obviously live, not so much the layers of guitars, but still I think they did a pretty decent job of recreating the sound. Trying to pick out the vocals certainly forces you to focus on the music.

Someone on the forums was complaining it was just a wall of noise. "yes", came the reply, "that's what they're like live... always have been"

It is definitely a unique concert experience.

Absolutely intense. I've never experienced anything like it. During 'you made me realise' (my first night) I was just standing there with my jaw open, hypnotised. 15 minutes of noise then they snapped back into it, and I was stood there blinking thinking "holy crap, what on earth did I just experience?!". So pleased I had the opportunity to capture the moment... hope you enjoy it as much as I did & thanks for the kind words!
