Topic: LD caps: Differences between center terminated and side terminated?

I got my mic back from the shop this morning, and as suspected, its center terminated. I was looking around at AKG's site the other day and notice that some of their LD mics are side terminated compared to some of Neumann's center terminated.

Anyone care to shed some light as to what this does to the sound (or anything else for that matter)? Thanks.

It is not significant to an end user. You will never be able to hear if the mic is center or edge terminated as it does not create any significant sound signature.

It makes a difference to the mic maker as it will influence things like exactly where to put the dozen or more holes in the backplate and how hard to tension the diaphragm. Making mics has similarities to cooking, you take some simple ingredients and make them into refined products. Similarily with microphones, they use rather simple ingredients but sophisticated "cooking".  Choosing center or edge-terminated is only one of a myriad decisions you make on the way.

So is my Busman and it's centered and a dualy (smilar to the U87Ai, which is also center'd).
