straight out. Your stud would have to be a RA stud to accomplish that.

I use a rapid adaptor on my stud to do it. The bright side is that if you have a set of actives, the superclamps have 2 holes, one is the standard stud hole, while the other is a 1/4" female thread. While I wouldn't put much weight on it, I think you could get a 1/4" terminated stud, the RA adaptor, and a set of actives on it if you screwed the stud all the way in. Takes some practice to get the stud w/ RA adaptor on there and all the way in, but it's an option to consider if you want to other hole as an umbrella or LD mic holder.

I want to use it with my extension pole so I think the 1/4" is out for that. I wonder if Bogen makes right angle adapter or stud?

I've used the Bogen 203 Extension for Mini Clamp with my SuperClamp and extension.  I prefer it over the Bogen 042 Extension Arm because the 203 rotates freely throughout 360º, while the 042 slots in a specific angles (maybe every 60º?).

Brian what I'd like to do is clamp to the hand rail between seats so that the hole on the superclamp comes straight out towards the stage. I'd then like to figure out a way to slot in my 5' extension pole to put my mics on. I'm thinking both the 203 and 042 might rotate in the superclamp causing the pole to turn towards the side (and ultimately maybe fall over). But if the 042 locks in, maybe it would prevent that rotation?

occasionaly I have difficulties with the fixed angle thing...
I'll guess I also need to get the  Imaging 203 Extension Arm for Mini Clamp

though usually the 042 works well.

PS the 42 Does indeed clock and will NOT rotate, because of the hex head end on it.

As Ian notes, the 042 definitely locks in, given its hex head, but may not always align precisely how you wish.  The 203, while allowing infinite adjustment of its rotation, still "locks" in place with the set screw.  I've done precisely what you describe this many times and never had any problems with unwanted rotation.  Just tighten the set screw securely and it'll be fine.

or you could use two superclamps, which is what i do now. the first clamps to the seat/armrest, then the two clamps connect with one of the spigots, and the second can be rotated 360 degrees - rotate it so the it holds the pole vertically...

I thought so to until I broke the little brass piece off the threaded part. Really poor design IMHO. It works great if you are clamping to something perfectly flat, but in my case, the arm rail wasn't and the thing bent off.

how the hell did you do that? I never screw anything onto it. Personally use rapid adapters so that you don't have to thread anything on. You can still use your clamp if you utilize a bogen rapid adapter.

I agree, it's the one weak spot of the quick-release C clamp but I have never had a problem with it - yet (knocking on wood). Despite having three super clamps, a Rowi clone, a couple of Windtech C clamps and one or two others, I use my Bogen quick-release C more than the others combined. In conjunction with an APIC custom extension, I use this setup ~80% of the time, the rest I use either my outdoor stand or a small desktop stand.
