Edirol Setting for DPA Mics & Pre
« on: October 06, 2009, 05:53:15 AM »
I am embarrassed to ask but since it has been almost a year since I taped a show with this set up so I need a refresher course. I will write this down on a 3x5 to keep in my fanny pack!

I have:

Edirol R-09HR
DPA-4060 Mics
DPA- MM something Pre-Amp

If I remember correctly the R-09HR unity gain is around 50 so I set the gain to 45 ish & the use the pre-amp to adjust the rest to get my levels ?

Mics go Line in ?

Low Cut Freq ?? 100 ?

Thanks in advance,
New Taper

I think all of that is correct, except that most people here would advise you to avoid using any low cut, especially the one built into the Edirol (I can't really remember if it has one or not as I cover all of these buttons).  Generally it's thought that it's better to EQ in post, since you can always remove bass in post, but can't add it back if there isn't enough.

Yep.  Now, sometimes I'll remove up to 100hz post, depending on the bass player and venue, but would rather leave it in on recording.
