MP3 Tagging & File Rename Utility
« on: March 16, 2010, 01:16:51 AM »
I have a massive Directory of MP3 files that are somewhat inconsistent with file names/directory structure.  Anyone have a good recommendation for an application (freeware preferred) that will sort, rename and tag all my files?   Something that also does a good job of finding duplicates would be a huge help as well.

Jake: What's this?
Elwood: What?
Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

You might want to take a look at the free MP3tag > http://www.mp3tag.de/en/.  I started using it when my old tagger was no longer supported in Vista/7.  Don't know if this can do everything you want as I haven't run it through all its paces, but it's pretty easy to use and you can write scrips for your own "actions" which is covered in their forums and increases the program's functionality.

+1
It can pull from the freedb, rename your files to conform to your tags or vice versa.  Very flexible tagger/renaming program.

Great application, very customizable. It can also be used to write FLAC tags.

Foobar2000 works VERY well for tagging MP3 (and FLAC, and Ogg, etc.) files... as well as playing them.
