Desk mic with 1/8" output recommendations?
« on: March 30, 2010, 12:17:20 PM »
I've been entrusted with selection of video and audio recording equipment at my work for recording interviews that will take place between two people seated about 5 ft apart in a small office with a noisy overhead HVAC/fan system.  I've picked out the camcorder, television (for playback), but due to the noisy air/fan in the ceiling of the rooms, I want to pick out a microphone to make the speech more audible.

Both of the peoples' voices will need to be recorded, and so I'm thinking right now that maybe a desktop style microphone (see pic below for a general idea of what I'm looking for) with an omni pickup patter would be ideal.  Oh, and it needs to have a 1/8" output so it can plug into the camcorder.  Budget is up to $150-200.  Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks!

edit: also preferably a mic that does not require plug-in power.  and would a cardioid mic be a terrible idea if trying to record two people with one mic?

FYI, The Sony MS907 is real nice. Uses a single battery and works well.

The only weird thing is that mount. I have no idea what it is exactly designed for but its quite odd. You can have it sit like shown in the photo, tho.

I don't think so especially if it is a stereo mic.

It looks like the mic you picked out is a directional mic which could work if its a good distance from the two people.
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.
