Topic: NAK 550 w/Rechargeables hardwired into it

OK, I just got a set of NAK 300 CP1 & CP2's and I was wondering this. I might be able to get a NAK 550 deck. Would this solve the amp problem they seem to have if I used this deck w/o the MX100 or would I still need the MX100(or ???) to get a decent recording out of the NAK300's?

I'll attach some pic, but has anyone heard of a setup for a NAK 550 that has rechargeable batteries in it with a Sanyo wall plug attached to it, I would assume to recharge the batteries.  Anyone ever seen or used this setup?

Sorry that I can't answer your question, but even if you weren't looking for the discussion to turn in this direction, why would you want to use a cassette deck, no matter how good it might have been in its time? Digital recorders that use SDHC cards or hard drives are so much better and so much more convenient to use (even more so if you are going to upload your recordings to a computer for editing as most of us do here). Very few members of this board talk about using cassette recorders in recent times.

Get something like a Sony M10 and an adapter cable that allows you to run your Naks into its line in (or maybe mic in with the plug in power off if they need more gain).

you should not have any problem running your naks into a analog  cassette  deck..the analog decks have preamps which provide enough gain to get good levels. If you run your naks to a diigital recorder which does not or cannot provide enough gain , then you need an external preamp such as the mx-100 to provide gain to your deck.

I haven't run my Naks in ~10 years but when I last did, I used to run them into my Sony TC-D5M with the deck on pause and then run the line out into my SBM-1>D7 (i.e. I just used the D5 for the pre-amp and didn't actually roll a cassette tape).  I just found I liked the sound of the Nak 300>D5 set-up better than running the Naks straight into the SBM-1 or D7.  I see no reason you couldn't do the same with the Nak 550 - use it as a pre-amp and then send it from there to a HD recorder.  It's just that the 550 is a big deck and a lot to lug around just for that.  If you can get the 550 cheap/free and don't mind lugging it along, it was a great deck and assume the 300s should sound great paired with it.
