CA-14>Littlebox question
« on: August 23, 2010, 08:04:46 PM »
I have both CA-14's omni & card and have been happy running both from time to time. Having only 1 preamp makes it tough sometimes which mics will get the preamp and usually requires some tinkering to get two nice sources. I'd like to get an additional pre that would work with my current mics but also that could still be used if I upgraded to more traditional mics in the future (greater power needs, xlr inputs) would this be a nice option to cover both areas? Future mic purchases are obviously undecided but if my wife gave me spending room I'd prolly go for the beyerdynamic MC 930's. Thanks
CA-14 (c,o)->9100, Littlebox->M10 or DR-07

Use the CA-9100 with the CA mics and when you go to something with XLR's , go to the LB.
Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

You could ask Jon about building a LittleBox with XLR and a 1/8" input and the appropriate outputs for your setup. This would be a good upgrade and is basically what I did.

I don't know if there is a "standard" configuration. Talk to Jon (mshilarious her at TS.com) about what you want and he'll make a box to your specifics.

i got the lb with xlr and 1/8 for this exact reason (sp mics and 48v)
it came standard with both (at the time anyway) because the 1/8 jack had a few options as to its function
i have only used it a couple of times but so far love my upgrade
Mics - AKG ck61/ck63 (c480b & Naiant actives), SP-BMC-2
XLR Cables - Silver Path w/Darktrain stubbies
Interconnect Cables - Dogstar (XLR), Darktrain (RCA > 1/8) (1/8 > 1/8), and Kind Kables (1/8f > 1/4)
Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D
