R-09HR: I can't transfer files to my desktop anymore!
« on: September 09, 2010, 10:06:58 PM »
I just can't drag any files from the R-09HR window to my desktop, It doesn't matter if I switch cards. I can open the files with Sound Studio and save them, but this is not how things should be done. Also I can move the files to Trash, but once they get there I can't drag them to my desktop either. It's like the files refuse to stay on my desktop, so to speak. Help! Thanks in advance.

what operating system? sounds like you're using the 09hr as the card reader. what if you take the SD card out and put it in an actual card reader? try a different usb port if you continue to use the 09hr as the card reader. I have a mp3 player that wouldn't mount on my system but would charge and show it connected to resolve it, I had to disconnect a USB webcam. You have rebooted right?

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

Thanks for your reply.  ;)
I´m a iMac user. Well, I'm not in front of my home computer right now, but I guess my OS is the last one available. Anyway, I've been using my recorders ( R-09 and R-09HR)  with  this very same computer for like 2 1/2 years. No problems at all. It's very weird.
I'll try a different USB port and see what happens. Last night I did try everything I could: factory reset, different card, reinstall R-0HR software etc. Nothing seems to work.
Every time I try to drag a file to my HD nothing happens.
I really don't know what to do.

are the files copy protected on the recorder? I think that would only affect them from being deleted but it may be worth checking that.

I would Never, ever drag and drop files from a recorder...   That is a very risky workflow.  I once had to do a recovery for a mac user who lost data that way.

You should copy the files.  If they are copied correctly, only then do you delete them from the recorder.

How you define "copied correctly" is a personal decision.  I use rsync, which does extensive checksums (a single md5 on a large file is not sufficient).  Though these days I typically produce a final 16 bit version before deleting from my source media.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I don't have any problems deleting files. I can't do that selecting the file and using "move to Trash".
I just do what Edirol recomends: drag and drop. Only after backing them up I delet my files, of course.
Never had trouble. Only now I have the described problem: I just can't extract - so to speak - my files from the SD Card.
Thanks one more time

Hello again,
 ;)
SD card Write Protect:OFF says the menu. The card itself has this little switch. It's unlocked. :-[

try using a card reader. have you got another computer to test it out on?
