PCM-D50 optical out while recording?
« on: February 07, 2011, 09:04:37 AM »
referencing this post and this spec sheet, it looks like the D50 has optical out. Assuming it's true, is it hot/on while recording, or just on playback?

I've never used my opti out!  If you don't get an answer I'll test it to night when I get off work and let you know.

Same as above... never tested, but ready to do that if you don't get an answer based on real experience.

I'm curious in case of patchers, or (much more likely) I feed the optical signal to an optical>coax converter which feeds to my 722 so I can clock both together (cheaply) in the off chance I run 4.  :)  :-\ Just thinking of options.

I always carry an optical mini>mini in case some one with an MD, JB3, H120, or D50 wants a patch out of my deck.  I'll fire it up and see if I get an out going signal when recording once I get home.

The answer is yes... it runs hot whether in pause or recording. I use this feature quite often as a front end to my portable MD recorder as a back up at 44.1/16bit.
