My questions are:
Will the "2 x DAD6001-BC MicroDot to 3-pin XLR (P48) w. Belt Clip" can you plug this into any input XLR preamp and have it work properly?

Its Power Requirements is +48V. Do these need external power? Do I need to power these by a preamp like the V3 with the 48V switch turned on?

You got it.
With the XLR adaptors can use them into any 48v phantom mic-input.  Without the XLR adaptors they take 5V optimally (9V is OK), provided by preamp or battery-box. In that case you'll either need gear with microdot input jacks, microdot to whatever adaptor cables, or you'll need to reterminate the mic cables.. but if you reterminate the microdot XLR adapters will no longer fit.

The DPA microphones have a proprietary connection called microdot which can be connected to multiple adapters like a XLR plug. I'm told microdot was created to prevent the need to have multiple models of the same microphone created.
You are correct in that they would require phantom power which could be powered by a pre-amp or a recorder directly.

An alternative to that could be 4060 with battery box...

This is my standard response to anyone looking at the 406x's. Not trying to convince you NOT to get them...they are fantastic mics.

Anyway, I owned a pair of 4060's (>MMA6000) and loved them.

Since then I sold them and got the Nevaton MCE400's and like them so much more than the DPA's. To me the Nevaton's sound more like the actual show and seem to be more forgiving at a less than great sounding show. Another bonus is they are WAY cheaper (I think there is a pair in the YS for $325 for the pair). They do require you to keep the XLR connectors, but otherwise I personally prefer them to the DPA's (and that is regardless of price). They are also slightly larger than the DPA's, but I haven't had a problem with that.

I think you live in CO...if you ever want to borrow mine to try them out, let me know.

If you're looking for smaller option you might also want to consider the Countryman B3's. I haven't used them, but a lot of people have switched from the DPA's to B3's as well.

I have B3s as well.  They are good, expecially for the price, yet I still prefer the 4060 sound. I haven't tried the Nevatons, but I'd like to.
