Topic: Portable recorder

Greetings to everyone, I'm looking for a portable recoding device to record reggae sound systems and live reggae concerts. As you may know reggae sound systems are known for their bass, literally it can shake the leaves from trees. Something that can record without distortion. So any suggestions would be helpful.

As far as portable devices, we all use them and their pros/cons are as plentiful as the number of devices available. Most will handle those bass lines depending on which mics and/or preamps you use. If you can give us some more detail on your set-up, it would be more beneficial.

First, set a budget.  Then you can figure out how much to allot to the recorder--a $229 Sony PCM-M10 will probably do the job--and how much to allot to mics and a power supply or preamp, which are going to be the crucial element. You need mics that will pick up deep deep bass but not overload, which is a tricky combination.
