SpechulEd-JB3 Reformating Question ---
« on: March 02, 2004, 10:20:09 AM »
Ed,
1st...did you go to the fuzz show in GR last weekend? 2nd time us and the fuzz missed the show together...also, when's the next show you are taping in the D?

2nd.  i have used my jb3 for about 20-25 shows now.  i regularily delete shows off it once i put on pc and backup in external HD. i don't keep any misc mp3s/wavs on it either.  but i am about to take it on our 10 day trip to colorado this week which i will be recording about 8-10 shows with.

i read earlier about reformating...what's the steps i need to do to do this?  is it necessary?  is it like defragmenting?

let me know if you have time...jct@bossys.com

thanks

jC

kinda confused...which method will format w/o getting rid of my firmware?:

Yes I did.  Thanks bean and +T.  I shot this message out so others who were wondering could know too.  Anyhows,  the format and disk cleanup is done in the reset menu.  To get there, take out the DC chord if used, and take out the internal batteries.  Put the internal batttery back in while holding down the stop button.  Once you see the creative labs logo, press the play button once and you will see the menu.

or substitute the reset button w/ a paPerclip and do the same thing w/ the stop, play thing

just hold stop, get a paperclip, while holding stop, you press the reset button, and once the creative screen come up, let go of stop and pree play once, this should take you to the reset menu where you can reboot, disc cleanup, reload OS, and reformat the drive

hey man, how goes it, yeah the fuzz were great in GR, that bar kicks ass.  a lot of the people left at the set break, it was kind of an older crowd there, and i don't think they liked the loudness so much.  however, the people that stayed really liked it.  I know they still want to play with you guys, so i hope something can be worked out again.

to reformat the jb3, you can either take the batteries out or hit the reset button (doing either of those will shut down the player and reset it to come back on - you won't lose any information tho)

so basically, hold down stop, stick a paperclip in the reset hole, pull it out and as soon as you see the creative logo let go of stop and hit the play button.

you shoud now be in the reset menu, scroll down to the reformat option and click it, give the jb3 a couple of seconds and it'll format the drive.  after that just reboot.

the jb3 will start back up like its brand new again.  you'll have the same OS (firmware) you had on it before the format, but all the settings in the settings menu will be back to default.  so you'll have to change those to how you want them.

you should be all set....hope that helps.  have fun in colorado.

i won't be at the galactic show, however, i plan on seeing the sleepy jackson on april 8th, tortoise on april 14th, air april 18th, clinic may 11th, and the walkmen tomorrow night.  i'm gonna take a wild guess and say that none of you will be at any of these shows.

anyone coming to umphrey's mcgee in lansing?  i might go to that if i knew people from this board were gonna be there.

i was bad and never did the format/cleanup thing.  my charger is in my friends car and the batteries are close to being dead and i have to transfer like 4 shows to my computer so i didn't think it'd make it on the batteries.  I'll find out soon tho.

don't be nervous man, you can do it, just make sure that you don't have anything important on there.
