I just got this response from Audix, thought it would interest some on this board.
(my e-mail to Audix)
Hello,
I have corresponded with a couple of individuals who have the new Audix Micros 1290. They report that the capsules are removeable. I have also read that removing or changing capsules voids the warranty.
I was wondering why the microphones are not being advertised as having interchangeable capsules? This would certainly make them more attractive for purchase, and more capsules would be sold, as well. Is there some danger of damaging either the bodies or capsules when removing/replacing capsules? Thanks for your help,
(Audix reply)
Hello,
Thank you for your email.
Originally, we had planned to market the product with interchagneable capsules. As the product was ready to go to market, we realized that the interface between the preamp and capsule (via pogo pin) was much more volatile than we anticipated. Between the threads being very thin and the pressure of the pin on the backplate of the capsule, depending on how tightly the capsule was screwed on would effect the frequency response and the output levels. Rather than delay the product going to market, we produced it as replaceable but not interchangeable.
Since then, we have recently (finally) come up with a solution and with this new upgrade , we can market the product as interchangeable.
So, if you get the latest product, you will reap the benefits of these changes. Upgrades are available for people who already own products.
Best regards,
Cliff Castle

Good news for those looking for something small and versatile. There was nothing to this effect on the audixusa site, yet, so this must be very recent. Maybe vendors will start advertising capsules, etc. Prices might go up, too
