Here's a no-nonsense compact recorder:

The ZFR300 records at 24 bit / 48 kHz  on microSD cards and has a built-in SMPTE timecode reader / generator.

Powered by two AA batteries, and weighing in at just 3.0 oz, the ZFR300 is constructed out of a high strength nylon polymer case making it resistant to water and corrosion.

Best of all: Dimensions (H x W x D): 3.0″ x 2.4″ x .65″ (!)

Worst of all: looks like it's mono recording.

i like that feature:

The ZFR300 features a fault tolerant recording system.  If a memory card is ejected or accidentally turned off while recording, there will be no audio loss prior to the point of interruption.

That one's probably not for you, although I think there's talk of a stereo adaptor for it in the works

The ZFR100 has stereo and AES adaptors http://www.zaxcom.com/zfr100

They both record in a proprietary .zax format.  I'm not sure if it's lossless or not. They can be converted to .wav or .mp3 using supplied software

6 hours recording time per GB. That's compressed a lot. Maybe to the extent of mp3 @192 kbps?
