Reducing volume of between-song chatter in Audition?
« on: February 03, 2012, 02:20:44 PM »
What is considered the best feature in Audition to reduce between-song chatter?  The yappers really drive me crazy when they're standing right next to me because it comes out so loud on the recording.  I'd rather not edit it out entirely, just reduce the volume so it sounds less intrusive.

I've had great results removing loud, nearby clapping using the click/pop remover that is intended for removal of surface noise on vinyl LPs.

I once read that the "sound envelope" feature should be used for chatter, but every time I open that window I get overwhelmed with all the settings.  It makes my head spin.  If that's the best tool to use, is there a tutorial somewhere?

I use dynamic compression in wavelab.  is there something similar in audition?

edit:  you can also simply reduce the gain in those sections.  the switch is usually audible doing that way though.

Check the stickied README1ST at the top of the forum for a handful of threads on compression / limiting / volume envelope, including one dedicated to volume envelope in Audacity.
